Jasper has been playing chess since kindergarten, has won many tournaments, and loves the mental aspect of the game. He has also taught chess at Westwood Chinese School for two years. In his free time, Jasper enjoys playing tennis, reading, cooking, and exploring nature. He loves helping people and uses this opportunity to teach people how to play chess.
Kevin has been playing chess since 6 years old. He has reached a peak USCF rating of over 1700. He won many chess tournaments, one of which included 1st place in a section of the Continental Open, which awarded 800 dollars and a massive trophy. His other hobbies include playing the piano and studying biology.
Eric Feng has been playing chess since he was 6 years old. He has participated in many chess tournaments and has won numerous cash prizes and trophies. At the age of 13, Eric achieved the National Master title and has a peak USCF rating of 2215. He is also a three-time Spiegel Cup champion, having won the state championship for under 11 in 2020, co-champion for grades 6-8 in 2021, and champion for grades 6-8 in 2022. Apart from chess, Eric has a passion for music and sports. He has won several state-level piano prizes and is a skilled clarinet player who has been accepted into BYSO. He is also a member of his school's varsity track team.
Bohan was a former Chessinspire student and is now one of our instructors. Bohan's current USCF rating is 1950, and he has won several chess tournaments, including the Boston Elite Chess Tournament U1900 Champion and New England Open U1500 Champion.
Isabella began her chess journey in first grade and has been a strong advocate for girls in chess ever since. Since 2019, she has consistently ranked in the top 10 at the All-Girls National Chess Championship and tied for third place in the Under-16 age group in 2024. She also represented the U.S. Girls Team in the World Cadet Chess Championships in 2018 and 2019. Besides chess, Isabella is also passionate about music. She won first prize at the Massachusetts state-level string competitions and the NEC Prep string competition. She served as concertmaster and associate concertmaster for NEC Prep's top-level youth orchestras and is currently a member of the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.
David started playing in tournaments at the age of 12. He has competed in and won various tournaments, reaching a peak rating of 1714. In teaching chess, he hopes to inspire a new generation of chess players. His other hobbies include coding, playing tennis, and reading.
Charles started playing in USCF tournaments at the age of 10. He has competed in and won many local and large tournaments such as the 1st place in 2023 U.S. Continental Open in the U2100 section and 1st place in top U2000 in the 2023 World Amateur Team. He has reached a peak USCF rating of 1991. Charles hopes to spread the years of knowledge of the game to the other aspiring chess players. His other hobbies include playing video games, piano and tennis.
On Steven’s exact 6th birthday, he played his first rated chess tournament. On his chess journey, he reached a peak USCF rating of 1700 and has qualified for the Massachusetts Spiegel Cup invitational finals for 4 consecutive years. His other hobbies include playing basketball and practicing flute.
Eric Li has been playing chess since 5 years old. He has reached a peak USCF rating of 1484. He has won many chess tournaments, earning several trophies and cash prizes. His other hobbies include studying math and is currently a two-time AIME qualifier and a one-time JMO qualifier, even getting an honorable mention in JMO.
Evelyn has been playing chess since the 4th grade. She won 3rd place in the MA All-Girls Championship and is among the top 10 female chess players in the U.S. for her age group. She is also the founder, leader, and teacher of her school's chess club and has devoted significant time to volunteer work, including teaching chess outside of school. Besides chess, she enjoys reading, playing guitar, and listening to music.
Alan has been playing chess for 8 years and has been an assistant teacher for the chess class at the Wellesley Chinese Language School for 3 years. At the age of 12, he achieved the title of National Chess Master. He also has won many local tournaments and has had a peak USCF rating of 2260.
Starting from 2nd grade, Jerry has played chess for more than 9 years. He has played in a multitude of tournaments, winning trophies and cash prizes. Most notably, he placed third in the 2017 North American Youth Chess Championship U14 Section, winning the FIDE CM title, and placed 9th in the 2022 K-12 Grade Championships 11th Grade. He obtained the National Master title in 6th grade and still plays chess frequently. Jerry's USCF peak rating is 2212. He likes to spend most of his time solving tactics, playing chess games, and preparing for the next big chess tournament.
Alex has been playing chess for about 10 years. Currently residing in Acton, MA, he loves to play chess both as a hobby and competitively. In competitive chess, he has achieved many milestones. Some of his most memorable achievements were winning 1st place for the Spiegel Cup for 8&U, 11&U, and 2nd place for 14&U. In addition, he has scored fantastic results in all 4 years of the World Amateur Team (2017-2020) and has even played for the US team against China, breaking the 2000 rating barrier at the age of 12, as well as winning various local and non-local tournaments. His peak USCF rating is 2133.
Bernie started playing chess at age 6 and has won many chess tournaments, including two-time MA Scholastic Champion of U8 and U11 and 2nd place in the High School section. In 2020 and 2024, Bernie won the Best Board award at the US Amateur Team East Chess Championship in NJ. He is currently a Candidate Master with a USCF peak rating of 2131. Bernie wants to share his chess knowledge and unique experiences with all his students. Besides chess, he enjoys playing piano, taking photos, and hiking in his spare time.
